Calculate Hours using a Conventional Calculator

You need to convert the minutes into their decimal form before you can add time using a conventional calculator. You will need to first divide all your minutes into 60.

Adding time manually takes several steps.

  • Divide the minutes by 60 to convert the minutes to decimals.
  • Add the results with a standard calculator.

Calculate Hours and Minutes using a Calculator:

6:45 + 2:24 = ?

6:45 (45/60=0.75) = 6.75

2:24 (24/60=0.40) = 2.40

_______________

6.75 + 2.40 = 9.15 hours

There is no need to go through these steps when using our Free Hours and Minutes calculators. Save time and eliminate any errors. You can also print and email the time calculation for reference, records and accuracy checking.

To calculate time in our site is faster and easier than to add up time manually.  Remember, an hour has 60 minutes (not 100 minutes).  Plus, hours and minutes are different units of time, and minutes are not represented by a decimal number of hours. For example, half an hour is 30 minutes or 0.5 hours.

Adding Hours, Minutes and Seconds Manually

It is time-consuming and challenging to add times, but you can do it. Here are the simple steps to add hour  in a HH:MM:SS format.  Check it out.

Add the hours, minutes, and seconds of each time unit separately. If both the minutes and seconds are less than 60, it’s easy. However:

  • If the seconds are larger than 60, add 1 to the minutes, and subtract 60 from the seconds.
  • If the minutes are larger than 60, just add 1 to the hours, and subtract 60 from the minutes.

    Example: 1:30:25 + 2:45:55 = ?

To get the total, add the units of time separately.

    • Hours: 1 + 2 = 3 hours
    • Minutes: 30 + 45 = 75 minutes
    • Seconds: 25 + 55 = 80 seconds

In this case, the seconds are larger than 60. Add 1 to the minute and then subtract 60 from the seconds.

    Minutes: 75 + 1 = 76

    Seconds: 80 - 60 = 20

Now, the minutes are larger than 60. Add 1 to the hour, and then subtract 60 from the minutes.

    • Hours: 3 + 1 = 4
    • Minutes: 76 - 60 = 16

    The time total is 4:16:20.
Double check if your results are correct using our Time adder.

    Salary vs Hourly

What are the primary differences between salary and hourly employees? The hourly workers work for an hourly rate (e.g., $20/hour). Salaried workers get regular paychecks and more benefits than hourly workers. Salaried workers do not get paid for working overtime, while hourly wage earners can get overtime pay for working more than 40 hours weekly.

    Hourly Pay Pros and Cons

Pros: Hourly workers can get higher weekly pay for working additional hours. Some hourly wage earners can earn double their hourly rate if working on special days or holidays.

Cons: Hourly employees might not be allowed to work overtime in several companies. And if the business is slow, hourly workers might not be allowed to work the traditional 40 hours weekly and can be dismissed early. They might not get insurance plans, retirement plans, and bonuses, which companies often provide to their salaried employees.

    Salaried Compensation Pros and Cons

Pros: Salaried workers enjoy a steady income and typically earn higher than hourly employees. They also enjoy the different perks, including bonuses, retirement plans, and insurance plans, as mentioned earlier.

Cons: Salaried employees aren’t paid for rendering overtime work when working late nights or over the weekends. Depending on the company, some of them might also be asked to overextend themselves to remain competitive with the rest of their colleagues.

Calculating how much you’re making per hour

If you’re working full time, no overtime, and with a two-week yearly vacation or 40 hours weekly, multiply this by 50 work weeks, and you’ll get 2,000 hours.  Most private companies give two weeks of paid leave after a year of employment. To calculate your hourly pay, just drop the three zeros and then divide the rest of the numbers by 2.

For example, you’re earning $60,000 yearly. Just remove the 3 zeros from the end, and you’ll get $60.  Divide this by 2, and you’ll get $30.  You’re earning $30 per hour. On this website, we make calculating your hourly wage easy! Just use our hour and minute calculator to easily calculate your earnings.
